Chocolate Brownies

This is the perfect quick dessert that everyone is sure to love and ask for the recipe. I love chocolate as you know and when I saw this recipe I thought I should give it a try. Brownies are something that I love but had never made myself so here goes.

Preheat your oven to 190 Degrees Celsius. Line a 25cm square and 5cm deep baking tray with baking paper for later.

In a medium sized saucepan gently melt 150 grams of butter. When it is melted add 300 grams of brown sugar to the pan. Stir with a wooden spoon reducing the heat to low.

Quickly whilst the butter and sugar are combining, sift together in a mixing bowl 75 grams of Cocoa powder, 150 grams of plain flour, 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda and a pinch of salt. Add the dry ingredents to the saucepan and stir to combine with the butter mixture. (You won't be able to combine the mixture completely at this stage as it is still to dry.)

Remove the saucepan from the heat and set aside. Now whisk together 4 eggs in a jug with 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Once combined mix the egg into the saucepan.

Finally stir in 150 grams of chopped milk chocolate. (I broke mine into their square then quartered the squares.) Pour the mixture into your prepared baking tray. You may need to smooth out with a spatula, it allows for the brownie to create a more even crust.

Bake it the oven for 20-25 minutes. This recipe (and the way I like my brownies) allows for the center of the brownies to remain gooey, if you don't want yours this way just leave it in the oven for a little bit longer. So to check if it is ready just touch the top if there is a crust but it still feels soft in the middle it is ready.

Remove from the oven and place the tray on a cooling rack for 10 minutes. Then I removed mine from the tray to cut up, but you could cut it up in the tray if you like. You should able to get 16 pieces. It is best served straight away with a dusting of icing sugar and a scoop of ice cream.

Whilst there is a lot of chocolate in this recipe I didn't find it to be too rich. I even served it to some family members that usually don't like rich deserts and they really enjoyed it. If empty bowls are a good indicator this one is a real winner. I also liked it because it is uses ingredient that I had in my pantry and fridge, which mean no trip to the supermarket for an ingredient that you will only us once.

Until next time, Happy Cooking.
